Finishing the race

On Sunday, Pete Hass crossed the finish line of the Kaiser Permanente Half- Marathon in San Francisco with a time of just under two hours.  He collapsed after crossing the finish line, and died.

Pete went to Marin Catholic High School at roughly the same time as I did. Although he was one year behind, he was in several classes with me as he did very well at school.

I hadn’t stayed in touch with Pete since high school, but he went on UC Berkeley, married Eden, and started his own company making pet supplies.

I’m sorry I didn’t stay in touch with Pete. I’m trying to make an effort to stay in touch with more people and just last week went to lunch with an old friend from high school.

If you’re thinking you should get in touch with someone, do it. Life is a race, and you never know when it’s going to finish.
