Pay to Play That No One Watches

If you work in PR or marketing you’ve gotten used to the calls. They usually come within 24 hours of putting out a news release over one of the major wire services. “Hi, I’m so and so from XXX Media and we would be interested in having you company profiled by our network with respected interviewer…insert name of someone who was a player 20 years ago…”

That sounds interesting….Oh and it’ll only be $25,000.  Wait…What?

Yes, it’s a scam. There are companies that will “interview,” you for a fee and then “distribute,” this content to public television and other stations across the country. What they don’t tell you is that even if they distribute all of these, none of the stations run them. Don’t believe be?
