Getting out in front of a crisis – David Letterman Style

Among the “Crisis PR Rules,” you always here are:

  • Get out in front of the story so you can define the scope, or at least have your voice as part of the discussion; and
  • Put everything out on the table so bad news doesn’t trickle out over a linger news cycle (think the Major League Baseball steroid list).

Well, if these rules are in the book you follow, you must have been blown away by David Letterman tonight.  Apparently, Dave has slept with several female staffers over the years.  There was an employee of “48 Hours” that thought this would be information that Dave would like to have kept private and asked for $2 million to not publicly share the information.  Dave took this to the Manhattan DA who arrested the person today.  Then Dave taped his show:
