How much due diligence? Or does porn matter?

Today’s NY Times has an article by Brad Stone (who ironically according to his website shares a name with a porn star) about Stickam and it’s supposed links to a shadowy online porn empire.

Stickam has portrayed itself as a mainstream site and been covered by mainstream publications.

In the wake of the MySpace/Intermix kerfuffle(or lack of interest in said kerfuffle), does it really matter if a company has ties to porn? Could this have been discovered during the course of the usual due diligence done by most agencies when scouting out a prospective client? This is especially difficult with relatively new private companies, because in many cases you have to take them for their word.

From our perspective, I don’t think we would take on a client with ties to porn, but I’m not sure. Isn’t Comcast in the porn business? Aren’t the major hotel chains (no comments about heiress’ of major hotel chains please)?
