I am very confused…Why add friction?

I am very confused why a company wants to make it hard for people to learn more about them. I read the short article linked above. I was interested in learning more about the firm referenced, so I went to their site, and to access anything at all, it asked me to register! Why? If they want to know who is visiting, just look at the logs, don’t ask people for an email address. I hate unnecessary and harmful friction. If people come to your site, they are looking for information. GIVE IT TO THEM!
