I just watched a six and half minute commercial. By choice. The commercial was for Johnnie Walker Scotch whisky. The commercial created for the company’s 100th birthday includes actor Robert Carlyle (who was brilliant in Trainspotting) and is shot in a single shot. Supporting their message of “Keep Walking,” the commercial, “The Man Who Walked Around the World,” is Carlyle litrally walking through Inverlochiarig Perthshire, Scotland while talking nonstop about the history of Johnnie Walker.
This video works well because it is:
- Informative;
- Directly supports the brand; and
- It is truly entertaining.
The video also includes subtitles for those of you who don’t speak Scottish. If you need a refresher course, just watch Mike Myers in “So I Married an Axe Murderer,” or anything with Robert Carlyle. Even better, read Trainspotting by Irvine Welsh.
Until then, pour yourself your favorite beverage and watch:
If you don’t believe me that it’s good, believe George Parker. He knows what he’s talking when it comes to great advertising.

Please tell me how I can e-mail this to a friend in Jamaica. I have his e-mail address. He’s a great fan of Johnnie Walker ads (see Mad Men).
Thanks,
